Executive Search

For appointments that shape what comes next.

Some appointments carry consequences far beyond the role itself.

A senior leader can influence strategy, performance, culture and the confidence of the people around them. When the requirement is business-critical, confidential or dependent on reaching people who are not actively looking, a more deliberate search is required.

Vested Executive Search combines detailed market research, discreet engagement and informed leadership assessment to support decisions of lasting importance.

Vested Executive Search

When executive search is appropriate

Executive search may be appropriate when you are managing a confidential leadership change, planning for succession, entering a new market or appointing someone to lead a significant period of growth or change.

It also provides greater control where the requirement is complex, the candidate population is limited, or the organisation needs to consider leadership experience from adjacent sectors.

    Defining the leadership requirement

We begin by establishing the mandate rather than relying solely on the job description. This includes the commercial priorities, leadership expectations, stakeholder relationships and organisational context surrounding the appointment. Where several stakeholders are involved, we help create a shared view of what the incoming leader will be expected to deliver.

We also examine the factors that may affect the search, including remuneration, location, reporting structure and the strength of the employer proposition.

      Researching the relevant market

Executive candidates are frequently succeeding in their current positions and may not be visible through advertising or conventional recruitment channels.

We map the relevant market, identify potential candidates and approach them directly with a clear and credible account of the opportunity.

The search may include candidates from comparable organisations as well as individuals from adjacent markets whose experience could bring a valuable perspective.

        Assessing leadership suitability

Career history establishes what someone has done. It does not, by itself, show how they will lead within your organisation.

Our assessment considers the evidence behind a candidate’s achievements, the decisions they have made and the environments in which they have performed. We explore their motivations, leadership approach, expectations and capacity to deliver the mandate. We also conduct Insights psychometric assessments on all shortlisted candidates as part of the Executive Search programme.

          Discretion and clear communication

Sensitive appointments require careful management for both the organisation and the individuals being approached.

At the beginning of the search, we agree how the opportunity will be represented, which information can be shared and how communication will be managed. This gives clients greater control while allowing candidates to engage with appropriate confidence.

We provide market feedback, challenge assumptions where necessary and support the interview, referencing and offer stages agreed for the mandate.

            Accountability after the appointment

The significance of a leadership appointment does not end when the offer is accepted.

The Vested commercial model keeps our interests connected to the continuing appointment.
